Every Unit in Age of War Ranked from Worst to Best

Age of War is built around a simple but important decision: which unit deserves your gold? Across five different ages, the age of war gives you access to units with different costs, strengths, ranges, and roles. Some are useful mainly for early pressure, while others can completely change a battle.

This ranking focuses on overall usefulness rather than simply looking at damage. A cheap unit that helps you survive an important wave can be more valuable than an expensive unit with impressive stats.

1. Clubman

The Clubman is cheap and useful at the beginning, but its low health and melee range make it easy to outclass. It is mainly valuable for building an early army quickly.

2. Archer

The Archer provides ranged support and can attack from behind stronger units. However, its damage and durability become less impressive as you advance through the ages.

3. Swordsman

The Swordsman is a dependable melee unit with a reasonable price. It can absorb some pressure and support ranged units, although it eventually struggles against stronger troops.

4. Musketeer

The Musketeer brings much-needed ranged firepower to the Renaissance Age. It is more expensive, but its ability to deal damage from a distance makes it useful in many situations.

5. Knight

The Knight is one of the strongest medieval options. Its combination of health, mobility, and damage allows it to push through weaker formations and create serious pressure.

6. Cannon

The Cannon is expensive, but its firepower makes it a valuable choice when you need to deal with groups of enemies. It becomes especially effective when protected by cheaper units.

7. Infantry

Modern-age Infantry offers a solid balance of cost and combat ability. It can form the backbone of an army without requiring the investment of heavier units.

8. Tank

The Tank takes the top spot because of its combination of durability and destructive power. In the Modern Age, it can absorb punishment while dealing heavy damage, making it an excellent choice when you have enough gold to support it.

Ultimately, the best unit depends on your economy, timing, and current age. Smart combinations are often more effective than simply spamming the strongest unit.
