Community Watches: Are they good or bad?
What is a Community Watch?
- This is where the members of a particular community or neighborhood look out for one another.
What do the members of a Community Watch do?
- They watch each others homes when someone is on vacation or is away for extended periods of time.
- They watch for unusual activity at their neighbors home.
- They may even check up on each other.
What kind of powers do members of a Community Watch have?
- They should not have any special powers over others, but do they?
- They should be accountable to the law, but are they?
They should not be granted access to military grade technologies and weaponry, but have they? - They should not be permitted to play judge, jury, and executioner, but are they?
- They should not be able to falsely accuse their neighbors of crimes just because they don't like the person, but do they?
- They should be accountable for their words and actions against someone, but are they?
- They should not be permitted nor encouraged to ever stalk, torture, or kill someone, but are they?
- They should never engage in framing someone in order to get that person institutionalized (i.e. set them up to look crazy, plant or provide false evidence or witness in order to prove the person in question is crazy, unable to care for themselves, or is a criminal), but do they?
My perspective on Community Watches:
- Civillians don't catch Criminals. They do not have the training or experience.
- Civillians work for the Criminals. Because they do not have the training or experience they are not likely to know the difference between a Psychopath and the intended victim. In fact, they are more likely to side with and even help the Psychopath due to the psychopaths excellant acting skills. Even professionals trained to deal specifically with Psychopaths have a hard time discerning which is which.
- Civillians help criminals stalk, torture, and kill the victim. This is especially the case when it comes to Psychopaths/Sociopaths because they tend to be charming and are excellent actors. If per chance the Psychopath is or was in a position of power let's say a current or former FBI or CIA agent this would definitely sway a civillian to go against the victim.
- Community Watches if not kept in check can very quickly escalate a situation into something resembling the Salem Witch Trials or the Nazi Gestapo. Thus they should not be taken lightly.
