Dear Daniel:

Thank you for writing regarding the Patriot Act.

I voted against extending the three provisions of the Patriot Act that were set to expire earlier this year.  Each of these portions of the Patriot Act – the "John Doe" roving wiretap, the library provision, and the lone wolf provision – raise serious constitutional concerns under the Fourth Amendment's search and seizure protections.  To watch or read my speech on the House floor regarding these constitutionally suspect provisions, click here.

Thank you once again for writing about this critical subject.  I look forward to hearing from you in the future.

Sincerely,

Tom
