THE KING IS COMING

The Eschatological Return of Jesus Christ

"To Rule and Reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords for One Thousand Years"

Eschatology is the branch of theological study regarding last things, the last days.  The Last Judgement.  It comes from the Greek word eschaton.  It means end.

The church has been waiting for the eschatological return of Jesus Christ since the day of Pentacost.  The church, in the early first century was in a state of expectation.  They believed in the eminent return of the Lord.  They were not, as we might think today, generally ,that we die and then go to heaven.  That was not their expectation.  They were expecting Christ to return in their life time.  The thought of souls going to heaven didn't come along until much later in time.

Some confusion arose in the church at Corinth.  Some thought that the resurrection of the dead had already taken place.  Christians were practising "baptism for the dead".  The apolstle Paul sent a letter to the church at Corinth and part of that letter was to address this issue of the resurrection.  Please read  the First Letter to Corinthians, Chapter 15.The%20King%20is%20Coming%2C1%20cor%2C15.docx
