Alejandro Portes - Alejandro Portes is a prominent Cuban-American sociologist. He received his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1970. He is currently head of the department of sociology at Princeton University and a member of the National Academy of Science. He also served as the president of American Sociological Association in 1999. His academic studies have focused on immigration to the United States and factors affecting the fates of immigrants and their children.
