President Reagan's political attempts to streghthen America's nuclear arsenal and thwart the threat posed by the Soviet arms build-up, are explored through interviews with Reagan's top advisor and military leaders. Together, they sought to change the entire basis of defense policy through development of STRATEGIC DEFENSE INITIATIVE (SDI). Heightened anxiety strained U.S. - Soviet diplomatic relations, and led the two superpowers to an international summit in Iceland, where Reagan and Gorbachev hammered out nuclear disarmament proposals.
