Dear all, Victims and supporters of secret mind control abuses and tortures can plan to join the actions On July 17th, celebrate International Justice Day. Here is a letter from American Non-Governmental Organizations Dear friends and colleagues, International Justice Day is July 17. With just one month to go, we wanted to update you on our developing plans for national and local action for the ICC, and invite you to join us. July 17 has traditionally been a day of international events and celebration for the Court, and this year there is more to celebrate than ever before. For example, at the recent Review Conference of the ICC in Kampala, countries officially recognized July 17 as the Day for International Criminal Justice (see below for a link to the declaration). July 17, 2010 will mark a year of significant progress towards the strengthening of the relationship between the U.S. and the ICC. In the last year, the United States government participated as an observer in Assembly of States Parties meetings, pledged its support of the work of the ICC in multiple ways and recognized the instrumental role of the ICC in the broader system of justice for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide. This has also been a great year for our coalition. Since 2009, AMICC has strengthened its network, gained more member organizations and alliances and continued to represent U.S. civil society at meetings of the Court, on Capitol Hill and with Administration officials. On July 17, AMICC alliances and partners will celebrate the growing movement for a U.S. relationship with the Court that will support it now and eventually lead to full participation in the ICC. There are several ways you or your organization can join AMICC as ICC supporters plan celebrations. Planning is already underway for: - A meeting in observance of July 17 with City Council members in Los Angeles, CA; - A informational session about the ICC in St. Louis, MO; and - A rally for justice in New York City’s Union Square. These events and many others will be listed on our website for International Justice Day: http://internationaljusticeday2010.wordpress.com/. TAKE ACTION! - Organize a panel discussion, rally, teach-in, film screening, happy hour or community picnic - Bring together local organizations from the faith, legal and human rights communities to collaborate on an event (AMICC members: http://amicc.org/members.html) - Visit your Senator or Member of Congress to voice your support of the ICC - Ask your Mayor or City Council for a July 17th proclamation USE THE MEDIA - Write an Op-Ed or letter to the editor for your local newspaper - Appear on a local radio show to speak about the ICC - Distribute flyers in support of the Court PLUG IN WITH SOCIAL MEDIA - Follow AMICC on Twitter (UsfortheICC), and tell your followers about International Justice Day and hash-tag your Tweets “#July17” - Join the AMICC Facebook fanpage (link below) USE OUR RESOURCES International Justice Day 2010 Blog http://internationaljusticeday2010.wordpress.com/ AMICC’s July 17 Organizing Guide http://amicc.org/docs/July17.pdf Link to the Review Conference High Level Declaration of July 17th as “Day of International Criminal Justice” http://www.icc-cpi.int/iccdocs/asp_docs/Resolutions/RC-Decl.1-ENG.pdf Sample Mayoral Proclamation http://amicc.org/docs/PortlandProclamation.pdf President Obama’s Evolving Policy on the ICC http://amicc.org/docs/ObamaPolicy.pdf Thank you for your continued work with us and as always, we are here to support your activities.
