I am a newcomer here and have been on the site for a short time. So far I have had many problems. These are problems that can easily be solved by administration.
The first problem I came across was when I got banned for no legitimate reason! I mentioned that I am a skeptic and that was enough to kick me out. I sent messages to admins, which you can do when banned from ning, and got reinstated. Thank you for the reinstatement but you were too quick to pull the ban-trigger! Ban someone who causes troubles, not someone who came to learn and help!
Another big problem I have is how people here argue and attack each other. This is very offputting for anyone coming to this site. I came here to read, understand, learn and discuss everything I can about the subjects here. Having to sift through tons of posts and comments from one member attacking other members - that sucks!
A third problem is how many comments I made over a day and a half were deleted. I can understand if some were off-topic (if true then tell me so I can avoid it in the future!) but many of the comments were replies to the person who made the post, trying to help that person and comments that got replies from that person. These comments were not "threadjacking" or off-topic.
The next issue is the site rules. I tried but as a newcomer I can't find them at all. What are the site rules? Is this post against the rules? Why were my deleted comments against the rules? It's OK to bash other members but not OK to help them on their own threads?
So what are the site rules? You should have a "page" with rules and linked to in the tabs or a sub tab.
The site's main page is set up poorly. As a newcomer I first see "donations". Next I see a "notes" box that only administration can write. Then there is an html box telling of the owner's book. Then there are "events" that have not been used in 6 months.
After all of that I finally see the forums box with a tiny 3 posts in it. After that is a blogs box followed by another html box.
This makes it appear as if the members of this site are not very important to you.
"Latest Activity should be an important part of the site. It shows what people are doing lately. This feature is one of ning2.0's best features. It is stuck on the cramped sidebar where few pay attention to it. This site does not take full advantage of the capabilities of ning.
What are blogs on this site? How are they different from the forums? I tried to find this information and could not. What are blogs and forums here?
I wish you would allow members to fully personalize their profiles. This is a somewhat enjoyable feature of ning. People would enjoy having more ability to customize their personal profile page and make it their own. Is there a reason to not allow this feature to be set to "full"?
I could go on more about the site design but will not. I have had years of experience dealing with ning and ning sites. I actually offered my help via email and was ignored.
If anyone has other site complaints, not personal complaints or complaints about the topic of the site (DEWS, Torture, Mind Control, etc) please comment.
