I don't have a photo of Jon-Horizon, my brother in life and my best friend. I don't give friends levels, friends are the best period.  But he looked sort of like a combination of Axl Rose and Corey Feldman. he was always quick with a joke. he died...sort of suicide, sort of accident.

His obituary is here.

I CRIED A LOT, I SOBBED, THOSE 'WRACKING' SOBS THAT COME FROM THE SPIRIT OF THE GUT AND THE GUT OF THE SPIRIT AND THE HEART.   I CRIED SO HARD WHEN JON-HORIZON WAS FOUND, DEAD.
In Boulder I met a FEW people who had been prescribed massive amounts of Seroquel. People pill up like fuckin' MAD in Boulder.  He gave me a Seroquel to eat once, and I basically had to go to sleep immediately.
I didn't do any more experiments and my mind was blown as Jon would consume a lot of brown liquor and then eat Seroquels and go on slacking around the scene.  His nickname for Seroquels?
"Naps."  BECAUSE SEROQUEL IS SUPER POWERFUL.  I knew another patient who was indigent.
She had had some domestic nightmare and they had prescribed her 1200 mg of "Naps" a DAY.
I couldn't believe that she could walk around and hold conversations!

MK: Ultra. You heard of that? Right.  MK: Ultra and the first edition of the DSM? Same year. MORE THAN coincidence, all us people who research the Mind-Kontrolle conspiracy have to realise...
More than just a mere coincidence: the DSM IS MK: Ultra.

Several secret U.S. government projects grew out of Operation Paperclip. These projects included Project CHATTER (established 1947), and Project BLUEBIRD (established 1950), which was renamed Project ARTICHOKE in 1951. Their purpose was to study mind control, interrogation, behavior modification and related topics.

Headed by Sidney Gottlieb, the MKULTRA project was started on the order of CIA director Allen Welsh Dulles on April 13, 1953,[13] largely in response to alleged Soviet, Chinese, and North Korean use of mind control techniques on U.S. prisoners of war in Korea.[14] The CIA wanted to use similar methods on their own captives. The CIA was also interested in being able to manipulate foreign leaders with such techniques,[15] and would later invent several schemes to drug Fidel Castro.

DSM-I (1952)

World War II saw the large-scale involvement of US psychiatrists in the selection, processing, assessment and treatment of soldiers. This moved the focus away from mental institutions and traditional clinical perspectives. A committee that was headed by psychiatrist Brigadier General William C. Menninger developed a new classification scheme called Medical 203 that was issued in 1943 as a "War Department Technical Bulletin" under the auspices of the Office of the Surgeon General.[6] The foreword to the DSM-I states the US Navy had itself made some minor revisions but "the Army established a much more sweeping revision, abandoning the basic outline of the Standard and attempting to express present day concepts of mental disturbance. This nomenclature eventually was adopted by all Armed Forces", and "assorted modifications of the Armed Forces nomenclature [were] introduced into many clinics and hospitals by psychiatrists returning from military duty." The Veterans Administration also adopted a slightly modified version of Medical 203.

In 1949, the World Health Organization published the sixth revision of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases (ICD) which included a section on mental disorders for the first time. The foreword to DSM-1 states this "categorized mental disorders in rubrics similar to those of the Armed Forces nomenclature." An APA Committee on Nomenclature and Statistics was empowered to develop a version specifically for use in the United States, to standardize the diverse and confused usage of different documents. In 1950 the APA committee undertook a review and consultation. It circulated an adaptation of Medical 203, the VA system and the Standard's Nomenclature, to approximately 10% of APA members. 46% replied, of which 93% approved, and after some further revisions (resulting in it being called DSM-I), the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders was approved in 1951 and published in 1952. The structure and conceptual framework were the same as in Medical 203, and many passages of text identical.[6] The manual was 130 pages long and listed 106 mental disorders.[7]

Boulder coroner IDs man found on burning mattress as Jonathon R. Garrett

A man who was found dead on a smoldering mattress at a University Hill home on Wednesday has been identified as Jonathon R. Garrett, 38, of Boulder.

Boulder County Coroner Tom Faure released a statement Thursday saying that no foul play is suspected in Garrett's death, and the cause and manner of death are pending laboratory tests, which often take several weeks.

An autopsy was performed Thursday, Faure said. He said he could not comment on whether the fire appeared to contribute to the death.

In an e-mail to the Camera, Michael Garrett said his brother was a chronic alcoholic who struggled with inner pain. He indicated alcohol contributed to Jonathon Garrett's death.

"My brother spent 20 years trying to drink his pain away until he finally did," Michael Garrett said.

Garrett's body was found Wednesday by someone who had gone to his apartment at 864 18th St. to check on him on behalf of his landlord. Dispatchers received a call around 3:20 p.m. that Garrett appeared to be dead, and his apartment in the rear of a red brick ranch home near Aurora Avenue and 18th Street was filling with smoke.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they discovered the mattress the victim was lying on was smoldering. The fire was quickly extinguished. It did not spread to the structure.

Boulder fire spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said fire investigators do not know the cause of the fire, but smoking materials were found in the room.

In his e-mail, Michael Garrett said his brother grew up in Boulder and went to Fairview High School. Their father also was an alcoholic, and both brothers had difficult childhoods, he said. Jonathon Garrett worked at Tom's Tavern for more than 10 years before it closed.

Michael Garrett said his brother was homeless for a time until he went on disability. He described his brother as trusting to the point of naivete and said he would give away any money he had to anyone who asked.

He said Jonathon often would walk the Pearl Street Mall singing at the top of his lungs, "sometimes not to the pleasure of his audience."

Michael Garrett said Jonathon Garrett called their mother the day before he died and said he planned to check in to rehab.

"He would not have been loved or even liked to those that couldn't understand him, but to just a few people he will be missed and always loved," Michael Garrett said. "To me, he was a pain in the ass sometimes, but he was inherently better than me and most people I know."

there was foul play and i watched it happen.
it was not even the untraceable "perfect crime" sort of foul play, it was a different sort, the sort of foul play that comes from institutionalized bureaucratic negligience that borders and crosses the borderline of murder over and over again.   i sort of watched it happen...

I wept really hard for Jon Horizon because he was a decent friend and a miserable, suffering soul.  What he suffered from has been called mental illness. Close enough, although one might call it "emotional imbalance" or "psychospiritual illness."  And I know I watched it happen because I volunteered at that Carriage House and slowly learned just by watching how instititions capitalize upon and exploit the sick.  It was GHOULISH.

It was the sort of murder-by-negligience that left a part of me screaming for REVENGE!  Because he was waiting day after day for mental health treatment that they just would not provide for him -- even though that was their STATED point of existance.

But at the Boulder Carriage House they took advantage of the sick.  I mean it was ghoulish in that: i watched as the ONE tired and frail old woman who was supposed to be the Mental Health "go-to" person simply ask person after person how much social security money they were recieving, and then TALK THEM OUT OF SUMS OF THAT MONEY, so that it could go into the Homeless Shelter in one of the richest cities in the United States of America.

I watched other addicts recieve less-than-adequate care.  I realized that their arrogant NEGLIGIENCE was the after effect of the Bush Administration.

Bush was arrogant.  Bush, George W. behaved as a President in the manner of a snotty seven-Eleven clerk whose daddy owned the shop. He didn't really want to be there and didn't give a fuck if things went badly and so he did a terrible job, a wasteful sloppy job.

George W. Bush, heavily praised by a cowed and spineless American media turned more Shadow Government Propaganda Arm then provider of news -- Bush set a standard of negligent arrogance that showered down to every level of the United States' Fiscal Infrastructure. People gave bad service and gave a "fuck you, bitch" attitude if anyone complained -- and it goes on.

Jon wanted to get better. His life was MISERABLE and he wanted therapy.

As a volunteer on purpose, I asked the head person at the Boulder Carriage House about cognitive behavioral therapy.

The local legend has it that Boulder has a saturation, a glut of Cognitive Behavioral Therapists.  The head person gave me some jive about a lack of resources.  i watched as they hired a fat slobby satanic punk from off the street and gave him a boss-job bullying the homeless and mentally ill.  He sat there and loudly bragged in the mornings while the street people drank coffee about how he'd been a member of the Church of Satan for years, how intelligent Satanism was and how it was a 'cool alternative to other religions.'

That dude off the streets was NOT QUALIFIED to deal with the Mentally Ill.  At all. His fat ass sure had a job bullying and punishing the mentally ill though. I learned how to grit my teeth and clench my fists and think about beating a snotty nazi punk to death while not doing so...it was disgusting.

THIS IS THE REAL STORY IN INDIAN COUNTRY.  Jon being self described a "drunk Irish Indian" was part of "his problem" -- but the real matter of the institutional oppression and ongoing torture of Native Americans exposes all talk of United States' traditions of freedom and equality as lies.

That's sort of what I went to Boulder to learn.

Online I am not the first person to call Boulder, Colorado "the mind control capital of the world." But How Did Boulder Get That Tag?

No revenge I can take will bring poor sick Jon back from the grave. He had JUST gotten off the streets and into housing, recieving what he called "his Indian money."   But I watched him living the life of the miserable and mentally ill, woeful Pisces that he was.
I also hung out with him in lucid aware moments. I sure as fuck wasn't going to any insincere-ass guilt party thrown by the Carriage House Staff. I had seen enough of their bigotry and guilty fake-giving face-on.  No revenge or act of revenge could bring my dead friend back, or end the chain of institutionalized bigotry.

Only a raise in awareness.  Only calling attention to what was going on, and it was and is bigger than one pissant Goldrush town in the beautiful Flatirons.

America IS Beautiful, from Sea to shining Sea!  but the First Nations, the indigeonous people treated her much better than frackers and wasteful industrialists who baldfacedly lie to Meet the Press and Morning Joe audiences about how safe and clean nukes and coal and fracked natural gas are.

America is a beautiful Land, I saw the purple mountains' majesty for the first time hiking the Front Range.

on Greyhound i saw the 'amber waves' of whatever they were in Kansas, too. Just one state east of Colorado.  So: what's the point of all this?

One day a few months before they found his body all smoked up, dead in his new apartment, Jon-Horizon confided to me that he had been one of the first BASIC programmers.  He talked a good game, definitely knew early computing better than I did.

I fear Gary McKinnon will not find justice in America

It is a long journey that has caused me to ask for justice for accused Nasa and Pentagon hacker Gary McKinnon, who now faces extradition to America from Britain. I am retired Nasa Office of Inspector General Senior Special Agent (criminal investigator) who has seen the harm illegal hacking can cause. I was trained by the United States Government to hack into computers to give me an understanding of the psyche of and techniques used by hackers.

I know the likely calibre of the agents who investigated Gary McKinnon and I trust they did a thorough, professional job. With unlimited resources and the clarity of purpose in a post-9/11 world I am certain these agents believe they are on a quest for justice. However, justice sometimes exists outside the narrow parameters inside which law enforcement officers operate.

As a criminal justice college lecturer I tell my students that laws exist to be followed and, when they are ignored, anarchy follows. I am known as a conservative on law and order issues, but I also believe in justice and worry that Gary McKinnon might not find any in America. The US is a great nation and I am a proud American, but my country is weighed down by many archaic legal principles.

After retiring from Nasa I began practising criminal law and found that the American judicial system turns a blind eye towards the needs of the mentally ill. Gary McKinnon is said to have Asperger's syndrome. For two years I fought to keep a young boy out of prison or an appalling psychiatric ward, someone who, like Gary McKinnon, suffers from Asperger's.

In my efforts to defend this child I learned quite a bit about this condition. I found out that children and adults with this illness are often attacked physically and verbally by people insensitive to the private hell they can live in, day after day.

I discerned that individuals with this illness are often fixated on a particular object or topic to the exclusion of everything else, and that this fixation causes others, even family members, to shun them, intensifying their sense of isolation and loneliness.

For a person with Asperger's syndrome the stubborn pursuit of an obsession is inevitable and the construction of barriers in their way serves only to intensify their curiosity and drive to collect information. They act out because they feel compelled to do so. The prosecutors I went against while defending my client were honorable and decent people, whom I personally liked and admired, but that did not stop them from fighting to lock the young person away. Eventually I prevailed, but I could just as easily have lost.

Predicated on that experience, I was grateful when Texas Governor Rick Perry appointed me to the Texas Criminal Justice Advisory Committee on Medical and Mental Impairments. But, once in that post, I witnessed the same lack of concern by law enforcement and the judiciary towards the mentally ill that I had seen as a defence attorney.

While the members of the advisory committee and the individuals who reported to the committee were remarkably progressive in their thinking towards the mentally ill, and advocated alternatives to prison for seriously ill defendants, most of the people who made the arrests and imposed the sentences throughout Texas in my opinion gave little thought to the need to promote diversion programmes for the mentally impaired, programmes that would divert these defendants away from being institutionalised and towards humane mental healthcare.

I hope a deal can be reached with American prosecutors that will offer Gary treatment rather than jail or prison, and permit him to remain in Britain in surroundings and with people who will nurture him. To this end, I ask the authorities in the United States to halt efforts to extradite Gary and instead work out a compromise to protect my country's national security while also enhancing Gary's wellbeing. I would hold a different opinion if Gary were a physical threat to others or a continuing threat to American national security. Neither appears to be the case. I am unaware of any ongoing problems with Gary over the past few years, which tells me that help has been able to get through to him and that his interests have been channelled elsewhere.

If America is unwilling to strike a compassionate plea bargain with Gary's defence team I believe Britain must take steps to protect its citizen who is accused of breaking American law yet who suffers from a mental illness. In the case of Gary McKinnon, I have come to the conclusion that Britain should not extradite this man to the United States to face the prospect of injustice masked as justice.

  • Joseph Gutheinz is a lawyer, lecturer and former special agent in the US.
Mr. Gutheinz said in the UK's Herald that "After retiring from Nasa I began practising criminal law and found that the American judicial system turns a blind eye towards the needs of the mentally ill."

Jon-Horizon
was a troubled young intellectual.  In his self loathing he told me stories about prostituting himself to males in Colorado casinos.  He told me about his history of drunken street-fighting, and I watched him drink way too much to be happy over and over.  He needed help -- but in a system where the mentally ill are an easy shakedown, an easy way to get money, why should the local system have helped them? That would be like a vampire turning away a bucket of blood!

Obviously I am not going to try to report this in the fucking 'Camera.' It's just too bad.  And the United States basically goes on pretending banally about bold freedom and liberty. The real history of harsh racist treatment of the Native People, whose ancestry my good friend Jon-Horizon claimed along with Irish heritage (that's another story, rite? rite...)...

pigs have to be dealt with sooner or later.  as long as "t the American judicial system turns a blind eye towards the needs of the mentally ill," the arrogant and pathetically cruel exploitation of the sick goes on.  Who is the one who made that famous statement "Evil prevails when good people do nothing?"  I'm not seeking revenge, I know that's pointless and only contributes to the cycle. Somehow I am gonna find a way to throw a wrench into that cycle of abuse, as one person, as one cognizant Native American Citizen disgusted by racism and weak excuses and what have been called "white lies."

  • One aclaration, the "Naps" that were mentioned before ARE for crazy people who have delusions, one of their side effects is that they make you like a zombie. TI's defenitly do not have to be on those because they are NOT crazy, but as you know often get diagnosed as such. If you have proof that the FBI and such are behind all this, I envy you, because whatever evidence I manage to get always gets stolen.

  • I am so sorry to hear about your friend, really sad story. Seroquil is REALLY bad stuff, I tried  one once. Couldn't imagine popping them. It is an antipsychotic. I was really talking about benzodiazapines which are anti- anxiety meds like clonazepam which are also used to treat insomnia, one or two a nite, tops.
