The Institute of Physiology I (Neurophysiology, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Hans-Christian Pape) in Münster (Westf.), Germany has two open positions for PhD students.
We are interested in the thalamocortical system and its role in epileptogenesis, the regulation of the sleep-wake-cycle, and synaptic plasticity. The project aims to determine the role of gap junctions in the thalamic reticular nucleus and their impact on epileptogenesis. Methods include two photon calcium imaging, combined with whole cell patch clamp techniques, in acute brain slice preparations.
We seek candidates that preferably fulfil one or several of the following requirements:
- Hands-on experience in calcium imaging (preferably with two-photon laser scanning microscopy)
- Hands-on experience in cellular electrophysiology (preferably with the whole-cell patch clamp technique)
- Detailed knowledge of cellular calcium signalling, the thalamocortical system, and cellular pacemakers
The positions are funded. The University of Münster is an equal opportunity employer. The applicant may be awarded an affiliation to the “Otto Creutzfeldt Center for Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience”. The city of Münster was awarded a LivCom-Award for the most livable city in the world in 2004. Neuroscience research in Münster is growing and expanding fast.
