What are egress windows?

The first thing you might think about when you hear the word "egress window" is "fire exit." If yes, then you're guessing correctly. The true definition of egress is "to step outside, come out, or leave." This is exactly what this window is intended to do. During an emergency, such as a house fire, egress windows open fully so the occupants of a building can escape. Keeping these windows well-lubricated is important because they serve as emergency exits, such as if there's a house fire. All finished basements need egress windows before they can be legally converted into living spaces.
